How to get a realistic male-to-female AI photo that still looks like you
To get a realistic male-to-female AI photo that still looks like you, start with one clear, well-lit, front-facing photo of yourself, and use a tool that changes as little as possible besides gender cues. On GirlFilter that means the Natural style, which keeps your eye shape, nose, lips, skin and age, and changes mainly hair, facial hair and a softer jawline. The photo matters as much as the AI.
What "looks like you" actually means
Most male-to-female AI tools fail in one of two ways. Either the result looks like a different person, or it looks like a beauty-app portrait with smooth skin and makeup. A good result keeps the things people use to recognise you:
- Eye shape and eye colour
- Nose, lips and overall face proportions
- Skin as it is: tone, freckles, pores, lines
- Age and ethnicity
- Expression and head angle
- Clothes, glasses and background
What changes is the short list of cues that read as male or female: hair length and style, facial hair, and the softness of the jawline and brow.
How to take a photo the AI can work with
The input photo decides most of the quality. A few habits help a lot:
- One person, one face. GirlFilter only accepts photos with exactly one face. Group photos are stopped in your browser.
- Face the camera. A front-facing head-and-shoulders photo works best. Strong side angles give the AI less to go on.
- Use even light. Daylight from a window is ideal. Hard shadows across the face and very dark rooms make results worse.
- No heavy sunglasses or masks. The AI needs to see your eyes and the lower half of your face.
- Skip filters. If the photo already has a beauty filter or heavy retouching, the result will inherit it.
- Shave status does not matter. Facial hair is removed in the result, so you do not need to shave first.
The tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC. Photos are shrunk in your browser to a longest side of 1024 pixels, so a phone photo is plenty.
Natural or Feminine?
GirlFilter has two styles, and both cost 2 credits per image.
| Natural (default) | Feminine | |
|---|---|---|
| Model | ByteDance Seedream 5.0 Flash | Google Nano Banana |
| Goal | Stay closest to the real you | A stronger, clearer female look |
| Best when | You want "me, as a girl" | The Natural result still reads as ambiguous |
Start with Natural. If the result does not read as female enough for you, run the same photo again with Feminine. Neither style adds makeup or smooths your skin, but Feminine changes more, so it can drift further from the original.
Checking the result honestly
Do a quick check before you share anything:
- Squint at the eyes and nose. Do they match the original photo?
- Look at the skin. Is texture still there, or has it been smoothed?
- Compare the background and clothes. They should be the same.
- Try the other style. Results vary from photo to photo, and one style often suits a given photo better.
The before-and-after slider makes this easy, and you can download the two images side by side or stacked.
Limits you should know
Being straight about limits is part of getting a realistic result:
- It is an AI image, not a prediction. It shows a plausible female version of your photo. It is not a forecast of how any treatment would change you.
- The girl filter only goes male to female. For female to male, use the gender swap filter.
- Results vary. Odd lighting, tilted heads, or partly hidden faces can produce weaker images. You can try again with a better photo.
- Output is a still image, roughly 1K resolution and square. There is no video and no live camera mode.
- You must log in with Google before generating. Your first login gives 4 free credits, which is 2 images.
Privacy while you experiment
Many people try this privately, so it is worth knowing what happens to your photo. It is resized in your browser, which removes EXIF and location data, checked automatically, and processed by third-party AI providers through kie.ai. Our copy of the original is deleted when the job ends, and results are visible only to you for 30 days. The providers follow their own policies. The privacy policy has the details, and the facts page has a short summary.
Try it
Upload one clear photo on the GirlFilter home page and compare both styles. Credits are sold as one-time packs with no subscription, starting at $4.99 for 18 credits; see pricing. A short summary of everything above is on the facts page.
Realistic male-to-female AI FAQ
Will the AI keep my face recognisable?
That is the goal of the Natural style, which keeps your features, skin and age. Results depend on the photo, so compare with the slider and try both styles.
Does it add makeup or smooth my skin?
No. Neither style adds makeup or smoothing. Feminine makes a stronger structural change, not a beauty-app look.
Can I use a photo of someone else?
Only with their permission. You confirm this with a checkbox before every generation.
How many tries do I get for free?
Logging in with Google gives 4 credits. Each image uses 2, so you get two free images, with a small watermark.
