A web alternative to FaceApp's gender swap
If you want a FaceApp gender swap alternative that needs no install, GirlFilter is a browser-based option: you upload one photo of a man and it makes a female version of the same person in about 20 seconds. It is narrower than a full photo app. It only does male to female, you have to log in with Google, and it has no live camera mode. This post explains who it suits and who should stay with an app.
What FaceApp is, in general terms
FaceApp is a well-known mobile app for editing faces in photos. One of its filters changes the apparent gender of a face. Because it is a phone app, you install it from an app store and use it on your phone. For its current pricing, features and privacy details, check FaceApp's own site and store listing, since those change and we do not describe them here.
What GirlFilter does differently
GirlFilter is a single-purpose web tool.
- It runs in your browser. There is nothing to install. It works on phones and desktops, and you can take a photo with your camera on the page.
- It does one thing. Upload a photo, pick a style, get a still image of the female version of that person.
- It never asks you to type a prompt. The instruction to the AI is fixed, and it always asks for a clothed, non-sexual result.
- It has two styles. Natural (ByteDance Seedream 5.0 Flash) stays closest to your real features. Feminine (Google Nano Banana) makes a stronger change.
- You can see before and after. A slider compares the two, and you can download both images together.
Pricing without a subscription
GirlFilter sells one-time credit packs. There is no subscription and no auto-renewal. Each image costs 2 credits.
| Pack | Price | Credits | Images |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $4.99 | 18 | 9 |
| Pro | $9.99 | 60 | 30 |
| Max | $19.99 | 200 | 100 |
New accounts get 4 free credits (2 images), and free images carry a small watermark. Credits do not expire. If you have not used any credits from a pack, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days. Full details are on the pricing page.
Where GirlFilter is the weaker choice
It is better to be clear about the limits before you spend time on it.
- You need to log in with Google. There is no anonymous use.
- The girl filter is male to female only. Female to male is available in our gender swap filter.
- No live or video effect. If you want a real-time camera effect, use an app or a social-media lens. GirlFilter makes still images only.
- One face per photo. Group photos are not supported.
- No manual controls. You cannot paint a mask, type a prompt or fine-tune details.
- No app. It is a website that you open in a browser.
- It is new. GirlFilter launched in October 2026 and is run by an independent developer. It has no long track record yet.
Who should pick which
A quick rule of thumb:
- Choose an app if you want to edit many photos on your phone, want live video effects, or want a wider set of filters.
- Choose GirlFilter if you have one photo, want a realistic still image that stays close to the real person, and prefer to use a browser with no install.
What happens to your photo
Photos are resized in your browser to a longest side of 1024 pixels and re-encoded, which drops EXIF and location data. They are checked automatically, then processed by third-party AI providers through kie.ai under their own policies. Our copy is deleted when the job ends, and results are kept for 30 days for you only. Read the privacy policy for the full list, or the facts page for a short summary.
Try it
Go to the home page, upload a clear front-facing photo and compare both styles. If you want a deeper guide to getting a result that still looks like you, we covered it in our post on realistic male-to-female AI photos.
